其实，这是一个经典的误解表达。pet表示宠物，pet name却不是宠物的名字，理解错了可是非常搞笑。
为何？由于pet name指的是人的昵称，和宠物名字不可以说是完全相同，只能说是毫不相干。
pet name的英文讲解是：a special name you call someone who you like very much 你给你很喜欢的人起的一个特别的名字
在urban1 dictionary上，对pet name是如此讲解的：
Generally used in intimate2 relationships in place of names. The names are usually thought of based on experience of the relationship.
一般用在亲密关系中，代替原有些名字，而昵称的选择则依据具体的关系来定。
譬如babe，sweetie，honey，sweetheart和dear更不是哪个想叫就能叫的。
有的人特别不喜欢昵称，期望没人提及我们的昵称，由于这可能看上去有失身份。
